Artist Highlight
The artist whose artwork appears in this issue is Ben Heine, a visual artist and music producer who currently lives and works in Brussel, Belgium. Ben uses different media for his artwork, yet the one for which he is famous and which became his trademark, is Pencil Vs Camera technique http://www.benheine.com/projects.php#. Pencil Vs Camera is an original visual concept invented by Ben in April 2010 and further developed during 2012-2013. This technique uses a hand-drawn sketch held and photographed by the artist to create a mix of realities. Ben’s hand is usually visible and it represents the connection between the viewer, the artist and the artwork. Heine's first Pencil Vs Camera's images quickly gained popularity and opened many opportunities for the artist, domestically and internationally. Since 2012, many smartphone applications emulated Heine’s Pencil Vs Camera’s style. Several other artists have adopted Heine’s style to create variations of his Pencil Vs Camera. The Pencil Vs Camera concept has become popularized in many schools worldwide, where students are encouraged to use new technologies and share their ideas and imagination. His artworks were exhibited in Belgium, Hong Kong, South Korea, the UK, Russia, Romania, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, the US, Turkey, Brazil, and Spain. His works have been published in some famous newspapers and magazines around the world. Ben is very versatile. He is an avid traveler and enjoys discovering new places, cities, and cultures, all of which become a source of inspiration for his creative projects.
